Matthew 22: 17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? 18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? 19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. 20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? 21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

This is the time of season where we are heavy into the election year for a new president as well as many other political positions. I get many people who come to me and ask me on who I should vote for. Let me say that I do have strong political opinions and views, but I always reserve Sunday mornings for the preaching and teaching of God’s Word. In my private time as an American citizen, I will be happy to discuss that issue with you, and I do talk about cultural political issues of the day from behind the pulpit from time to time. This passage talks about a group of conniving Pharisees that were trying to trick Jesus into treason so that Rome would arrest Him and kill him. It did not work. Jesus surprised them all by the statement in verse 21. He told them basically to pay your taxes and pay your tithes. The bible states that we are to honor governmental officials and honor the laws of the land as long as they do not conflict with your ability to worship and honor God. As American Christians we have been blessed by God to be a part of the governmental and political process in the land with our vote, our petitions, and our protests. I knew a man that tried not to pay his taxes by saying that he did not agree with the government on how they spent the money. God does not give us that option my friend. The only place that philosophy will get you is in jail. Caesar was not a godly man in Jesus day. Let me just say that Caesar and Roman culture was vial and wicked yet Jesus told them to honor the government, and its leadership, by paying their taxes. God has ordained family, government, and church, as authoritative institutions. In the newsletters ahead I will be talking about this year’s election, in my blogs, from a biblical viewpoint and a biblical worldview. May God bless you in the days ahead and may God Bless America.
